Members,

I am trying to cme up with a systematic way to measure how effective a GM is doing their job.  I started by trying to figure out what  GM´s objective is:

1.)  Lower their teams cap
2.)  acquire players that make their team more competitive.
3.) Keep salary slugs ie cap penalties to a minimum.

The most I can think of is when you make a trade that lowers your cap, you get a bonus from the owners.

making a trade that highers your cap affects affects your bonus because you won´t get one

At the end of the season, your overall cap situation will determine your bonus from the owner.

I need some more ideas so if you can add to this, that would be great.

For instance, I´m measuring an Agent based upon how many clients he represents and how much he signs his clients for. SO say an Agent gets 10 million for Billups starting. For our purposes, Billups pays his agent a 3% commission, so Billups agent made $300,000 for his sports agency. at the End of the year, the agent who makes the most money for their agency should be considered for Agent of the year.

I got feedback from one user so far so come June when everything is set in stone, I do not want to hear any complaints about what was implemented because people decided to be silent now

Wani...i think this is a good idea to measure only EFFECTIVENESS.  If this is used to measure any sort of activity i think its bad.  Activity should be measured on amt. of trades and other general transactions or posts made in the forum.

Idk if the cap should be a big part of the effectiveness cause the cap is overrated.  Every year teams try to lower their cap and end up not having a great team because of it.  Last year i had a top 3 cap number but i had probably the best team in the game.  Amare, Odom, Melo, Barbosa, Kidd, Jrich, Swift, Dooling, Peja...but i had a high cap number.  I think if someone ends up like that this year then the competitiveness part of it should outweigh the cap number cause they still made their team a lot better.  I started with orlando and ended up with that team, idk how u can argue with that.  Ur formula might end up giving a team that isnt very good 1st place in effectiveness cause they lowered the cap (ie the knicks).

What if u start out with the bobcats who cant lower their cap at all?  Youd be getting non-bonuses every time u do a trade.

this will also decrease trade activity cause teams taking on any amount of cap wont want to do the trade.  You cant have both teams lower their cap in 1 trade and im guessing that a lot of GM"s will refuse to make trades because of the cap problem.

I agree, the point of measuring the GM performance is to measure their Effectiveness which is what I"m trying to do. I would like to consider other variables because of what you mentioned regarding teams that are already under the cap like Charlotte. I was thinking about some kind of player rating system that should also be factored into the forumula because like you said, if you have great players, chances are you will be over the cap...., but attendence and fan approval will be up (takes money to make money)

At the end of the day, it will be the votes of the GMs that determine the best GMs.

The measurements I were thinking, would be kept internal for me to see just so that people won"t get concious of trading in order to get a bonus. Do you know where I can find a legit player rating site? I remember the BUlls RealGM site use to have something like that...
Thanks for the feed back...

Wani, I found this site...

Each player has a TDX rating so trading a player like DWade for KG is not bad, only a difference of 0.1 so no bonus would be required there. But then if for some reason say Charlotte aquired Wade for say a draft pick (I know it"s unlikely) a draft pick would cary a Tdx of 0 for instance so Charlotte will be +29.9...

Maybe the goal will be for GMs to have the highest TDX on their roster. When your TDX increases so does your bonus in comination with balancing your salary cap?

What do you think?

Excellent Idea Hurt

Now the only thing is how does effeciency translate into salary? I hope the corelation is the intuitive. We"ll see what the numbers say...

For instance, Dwayne Wade is paid 12.5 Million a year just about and his Efficiency is 29.9 let"s say 29.9 corellates to 29.9 Million so Wade brings in 29.9 Million dollars to the franchise giving the franchise a net profit of 17.4 Million which is good. That"s they way I want to do this.
